Rev. Tommy R. Bergeron, Sr. OSL passed from this life on September 14, 2022 at his home in Summerfield Senior Living Community in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 84.

Rev. Bergeron was an ordained United Methodist minister who faithfully served at churches across southern Louisiana for nearly 40 years before his retirement in 2001. Upon retirement, Tommy returned to ministry serving Live Oak Church (Denham Springs, LA) until 2021. His spirituality and compassion touched the hearts and lives of all who knew him. Tommy was an active Rotarian and served in various leadership roles and community service. During retirement, Tommy could often be found telling Cajun stories or playing Santa Claus.

Tommy was born in Houma, Louisiana to Ivy and Rita Bergeron. The family moved to New Orleans, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Peggy (née White). Together they had three children and shared 50 years of marriage.

Tommy graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana (BA 1960) and Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology (MTheology 1963) before his ordination into the Louisiana United Methodist conference. Tommy devoted his life and career to the service of others. His children’s ministry, using hand puppets, was adored by everyone.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby; his wife, Peggy; son-in-law, Larry; and granddaughter, Jaci. He is survived by two brothers, Carroll (Diane) and Douglas (MaryLyn); his three children, Renée, Tommy (Amy) and Brian (Renee); eight granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and an infinite extended family of friends.
