Nancy Harbuck
9/17/2016
Spouse of the late Rev. George W. Harbuck.
Nancy Fulton Harbuck was born in Danville, VA, August 10, 1919. She was the third child of six and was the first daughter born to Sadie and Ernest Fulton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George W. Harbuck, and her five siblings. She is survived by two daughters, two sons-in-laws, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
As the oldest daughter of the family, Nancy served her family with love and devotion, tangible expressions of her loving God with all her heart and soul and mind. She learned through her early life experiences to reassure the Lord’s gracious love and to walk humbly with Him (Micah 6: 8). Upon graduation from high school, Nancy attended Longwood College in Farmville, VA and earned a degree in Home Economics Education. She taught for a year and then met George who was attending Duke School of Divinity. They married, December 25, 1944.
Nancy and George moved to Louisiana after he was offered to Pastor Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria. It was at Trinity that Nancy began her impactful ministry as a minister’s wife. She worked by George’s side, serving him, their family and others with her servant’s heart. In George’s 52 years of ministry in the Louisiana Conference she pursued God’s calling by ministering humbly to God’s people, serving wholeheartedly from the overflow of her heart that loved the Lord her God.
Throughout her life, Nancy touched her family in countless ways as she taught from the well-spring of her heart. She revealed her faith and her love for our Lord through her thoughts, words, and deeds. She demonstrated unconditional love, patience, kindness, forgiveness, humility, meekness and servanthood. Joy radiated from her face with her loving smile and laughter. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She imparted in her family the knowledge not only for life but for eternity.
John 7:38 says – “He who believes in Me…Out of his heart will flow rivers of Living Water”. From Nancy, “rivers of Living Water” flowed. She remained true to the Source of her River of Life as day after day, year after year, decade after decade she lived the values entrusted to her by her parents; she loved the Lord our God with all her heart, soul and mind, served others with humility and did it ALL as unto the Lord. Often she did not know the depth of the ripples she initiated, but regardless, her response was always “yes” to the Lord. As Nancy’s health began to decline, she still remained true to the Source of her river of Life, as she continued to share the gifts and blessings of God.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints”, Psalms 116: 15. She is now singing with the Angels along with the Love of her life, George, while they both walk hand in hand with our Maker. To God be the Glory!
