One of the people that I knew early in my ministry was Brother James Hodges. He was the kind of person that didn’t have a lot of pomp and circumstance about him, but there was something about him that made him very genuine. He was a friend. He was always approachable. He attended all the district meetings. He was gracious and exuded a contagious Christian spirit. Brother Hodges never pastored a large church, but he endeared himself to his people and they always knew that he had a big heart. It was my privilege to speak to him after he moved to Mississippi upon retirement. I know some charges where he served, and he did so effectively. Brother Hodges was not a flaming evangelist, but he was true to his calling. He loved Christ. He loved The United Methodist Church and he expressed the Good News from the pulpit year after year. Brother Hodges was also a good visitor. He was willing to knock on doors and to minister to people where they were in times of need. Ours is a better Conference because of the commitment and dedication of Brother James Hodges. We remember him fondly. |
