Blanche Johnston died February 16, 1988, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, following a long life of varied interests and services in the numerous communities in which she hived. Blanche was the consummate minister’s wife. With her husband, Dr. Warren Johnston, she served various churches in Arkansas: Holly Grove-Marvell, Wilson, Searcy, Fayetteville, Fort Smith District and First Methodist Church, Little Rock. In Texas they served First Methodist Church, Fort Worth. In Louisiana they were at First Church, Baton Rouge. Blanche knew not just the joys of service, but also the cutting edge of sorrow. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her daughter, Betty Allen Johnston, and by her son, Warren Johnston, Jr. One of Blanche’s great interests was education. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Arkansas State Teachers College. While in Baton Rouge she worked ardently with foreign students entering Louisiana State University. Of special interest was her work among the Latin American students. Blanche is survived by two nephews: H. Charles Johnston, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jon Jolyon Johnston, Atlanta, Georgia. |
