The Rev. William "Billy'' Turner, who for decades covered a wide range of sports for The Times-Picayune and other newspapers, then became a full-time minister, died Wednesday, July 30, 2016 in Shreveport on his 63rd birthday.

The Rev. Turner served at a number of churches across Louisiana, including Gretna United Methodist Church and Lacombe United Methodist Church. He also served churches in Lutcher, Donaldsonville and Eunice. At the time of his death, the Rev. Turner was pastor of Coushatta First United Methodist Church and Wesley Chapel.
