Mr. Norman Chappell of Minden, husband of Rev. Linda Shepherd, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the VA
Hospital in Shreveport. Norman was born on August 20, 1929 to Marshall and Thula Chappell in Monroe. He lived
in Jackson Parish until age ten when his family moved to Transylvania, Louisiana in East Carroll Parish, and
attended school there. He served in the military during the Korean Conflict, 1951-1953. After returning home he
eventually went into business for himself. He owned a General Store, a Service Station, and a Tire Business in
Transylvania.
Norman and his first wife, Carol, had three children, Donna, Paul and Barry. Carol died in 1991 and their daughter,
Donna, died in 1999.
Norman and Linda were married in May of 1999 while she was serving the Kilbourne/Locust Grove Charge.
The highlight of Norman’s year was attending his Army Buddy Reunion, which was started by Linda’s first
husband, T. C. Shepherd, in 1983. The reunion is hosted by different families, therefore, they were able to travel to
or through most of the United States in the last thirty years.
Norman is survived by two sons, two sisters, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, his wife, Linda,
her son and two daughters, her six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his daughter, one brother, and six sisters.
