Hoffpauir, Mrs. Lastie Newton
7/5/1961
MRS. L. N. HOFFPAUIR
November 9, 1869-July 5, 1961
Mrs. Joanna Hoffpauir, wife of the late Rev. Lastie Newton Hoffpauir, entered into eternal rest on July 5, 1961 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hettie Bankston, of Many, Louisiana.
Mrs. Hoffpauir was born at Indian Bayou, Louisiana, on November 9, 1869. She was educated in the public school of Indian Bayou and the Sunday School of the Methodist Church. She became a member of the Methodist Church at the tender age of ten, thus she was a member of the Church for 4 score years.
She gave her heart and hand in Holy Wedlock to the Rev. Lastie Newton on December 20, 1888. With him she shared the romance, the toil and tears, of the itinerant Methodist Ministry for well over a half century. While he preached, Mother prayed, and who knows who played the nobler part.
Since her companion departed this life on February 10, 1950, she has had the companionship and loving care of her daughter, Mrs. Hettie Bankston.
Two of her children also preceded her in death; Ruel Thomas in 1902 and Mrs. Elena Hicks in 1945.
Surviving are: Mr. Ellis A. Hoffpauir, Leesville, Louisiana; Mr. William V. Hoffpauir, Shreveport, Louisiana; Mrs. Hettie Bankston, Many, Louisiana, and Mrs. Verdie Mooneyham, Leesville, Louisiana; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
The Rev. W. H. Bengston, assisted by the Rev. R. C. McCammon, conducted the service at Many Methodist Church. Interment was in Leesville Cemetery.
