Southall, Iola (Mrs. Obbie J.)

11/29/1981

MRS. OBBIE J. (IOLA) SOUTHALL
October 14, 1925-November 29, 1981

Mrs. Iola Reed Southall was born to the union of the late Alfred Reed and Augustine Truehill on October 14, 1925 in Belle Rose, Louisiana. She accepted Christ on September 25, 1943 under the pastorate of the late Reverend W. M. Caldwell at Wesley United Methodist Church of Napoleonville, Louisiana. Over the years she served faithfully as an usher and musician, and generally gave help wherever she was needed.
Iola Reed and Obbie J. Southall were united in matrimony on June 3, 1943. After fulfilling the role of wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Christian and good neighbor in an excellent manner, she departed this life on November 29, 1981. Funeral services were held December 1, 1981 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Napoleonville with Pastor Albert Holland officiating, with over a dozen ministers in attendance.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Obbie Southall; one daughter, Mrs. Audrey Mae Daigle of Ewellville, Louisiana; seven sons: Claiborne of Ewellville, Obbie Jr., Curtis, Dwight and Bryant of Plattenville, Louisiana, Leroy and Percy of New Orleans; one son-in-law; eighteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; six daughters-in-law; two uncles and four aunts.
The words of Charles Wesley are meaningful at this point: “O happy, happy soul! In ecstasies of praise, Long as the eternal ages roll, Thou sees thy Savior’s face. Redeemed from earth and pain, Ah! When shall we ascent, And all in Jesus’ presence reign Through ages without end?”
