Davies, Stephen J.

Stephen J. Davies died at his home in St. Mary’s Parish, La., October 10th, 1863, aged about 48 years. He was born in Wales, and raised in the State of Kentucky. In the winter of 1842 he entered the traveling connection in the Mississippi Conference. At the division of that Conference his appointment fell within the bounds of the newly formed Louisiana Conference, of which he continued a member until the day of his death. Bro. Davies was a man of strong impulses, an earnest and good preacher, and we doubt not has many seals to his ministry. He was married twice. The close of his life was embittered by strange and deep afflictions, growing out of his domestic relations, and the said intelligence comes to us that he died of a broken heart. None of his ministerial brethren were with him during his last illness, but from our knowledge of his Christian integrity we doubt not that he was ready to meet the messenger when he came.
