Nicholas Burton was born in the year 1829, in the State of Virginia, and came to Louisiana when a young man. He was converted in his youth. Soon after conversion he began to preach, and was ordained deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Some years later he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at Lake Providence, and Rev. P. Landry had him appointed pastor of our Church at that place. He received three episcopal appointments; was ordained elder by Bishop Bowman. At the time of his death he was a supernumerary. He built St. Peter’s Chapel at Lake Providence. He died as he lived, a devout Christian. | |
