Rev. J. J. Blanz died at the ripe age of 66 years on March 27, 1887. He joined the German Mission Conference in 1882. A year ago, by the action of the General Conference, he became a member of the Louisiana Conference and was appointed pastor of Soroparu Street Church. Without education or exquisite refinement, he was nevertheless well qualified successfully to labor in the fields assigned him. Bro. Blanz was a man of deep piety, much native talent, great industry, hopeful disposition. The style of his preaching was hortatory. As a singer in Zion, he has few equals. As a pastor, he was indefatigable and faithful. The poor and forsaken found in him a devoted friend. He leaves an aged widow. His children are married and provided for. His end was peace. With the name of Jesus on his lips, his spirit passed away. |
