A superannuated preacher of the Louisiana Conference, Reverend Charles Downs died at Camp Parapet on February 17, 1892, at the age of 82 years. For many years he preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ, while living the life of an exemplary Christian. During all his afflictions, his faith never faltered; he had firm trust in the God who had led him all these years. When death came he was able by grace to pass away in peace. His funeral was attended by the Reverend S. Evans, his former pastor, Reverend M. P. Franklin, Reverend H. Taylor, with his present pastor, Reverend W. P. Forrest. “Servant of God well done, The glorious warfare’s past, The battle’s fought, the victory’s won And thou art crowned at last.” |
