CHRISTOPHER B. GODFREY
- 1898

Christopher R. Godfrey was converted in Baton Rouge in 1851 or 1852, under the ministry of R. J. Harp. Your Committee is entirely without data as to his birth, the time of his entering the ministry, or the time of his joining the Conference. 1 think he first joined the Mississippi Confer-ence and was transferred to the Louisiana Conference more than twenty years ago, and was a member of this Conference up to his death, which occurred November 26, 1898 in Olla, Louisiana. About all we can say is that since his connection with this Conference Bro. Godfrey has been a faithful itiner-ant preacher, and has ever maintained an unsullied Christian character. He filled many of our prominent circuits, and gave general satisfaction. He continued in the effective work until his health failed and he was forced to take a superannuated relation, which relation he sustained at the time of his death. I am told by a brother, who was with him and performed the burial services at the grave, that he died in great peace.
