Irene Pet Turner was born in Anderson, South Carolina on July 19, 1875, and went home to her Lord in the evening of June 1, 1957, at Bell Gardens, California. At the age of six years the deceased moved with her parents from South Carolina to Waco, Texas where they made their home for the following ten years, and then removed to Chico, Wise County, Texas. Here she met and married Thomas Patman Turner, who soon after their marriage, December 17, 1891 entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, which he served faithfully for thirty-seven years as circuit rider, city pastor and presiding Elder. He was called from his earthly labors on January 27, 1939. Mrs. Turner filled with gracious dignity the position of a minister’s wife helpful to her husband and devoted to her church and her Lord. She leaves seven children, five sons, C. B. Turner, Roswell, New Mexico; T. B. Turner, Long Beach, California; Floyd M. Turner, Los Angeles, California; Robert P. Turner, Phoenix, Arizona, Thomas W. Turner Bell Gardens, California, and two daughters Elsie B. Crowson, Los Angeles, California and Katherine Dailey, San Bernadino, California, and seventeen grand-children and thirteen great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. A great heritage indeed! “Servant of God well done, Your earthly walk is o’er. God has other plans for you, Along that heavenly shore.” |
