ZACHARIAH SMALLEY
1884-1972
 
The Reverend Zachariah Smalley was born June 13, 1884, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Reverent Smalley was converted at an early age and joined the Fairview United Methodist Church, Keithville, Louisiana. He was licensed to preach on August 24, 1912, and served in the Louisiana Conference at the following churches from 1920 to 1957: New Light, Grand Encore, Many Ct., Pleasant Hill Ct., Thomas Ct., Boyce Ct., Lake Providence, Grand Bayou, Vanceville and Logansport Ct. He retired from active service May 27, 1957.
He was joined in wedlock to Miss Mattie Turner in 1905. To this union nine children were born, eight of whom survive: Elmo, E. T., James, Olevia White, Fannie Lock, Josephine Nunnely, Annie V. Sandsburry, and Ethel Medina. The son Edgar and Ms. Mattie Smalley preceded Brother Smalley in death. There are 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In 1939 Brother Smalley was married to Miss Emma Byrd, who survives.
As we lay Brother Smalley to rest beneath the setting sun, may we all say, Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
Died May 27, 1971.
