She was born Edith Edna Hoffpauir at Indian Bayou, Louisiana, on July 3, 1889. She attended school through high school at Indian Bayou, where she married Gustavus A. Morgan in 1907. Rev. Morgan received his local preacher’s license from the Indian Bayou Methodist Church in 1907. They served part-time at various churches while he attended Centenary College in Shreveport from 1907 to 1909. He was ordained in 1909 and they began a full-time ministry which lasted until he retired in 1958. They bought a home in Jonesboro, Louisiana, and lived there until his death on July 21, 1959. She continued to live in Jonesboro until March, 1973, when she moved to Santa Anna, Texas, to live with her son. She died on June 21, 1974. They served churches in the Louisiana Conference during their entire ministry, except for serving from 1932 to 1935 at Santa Anna, Texas. The churches served include: Melder, Forest Hill, Fellowship, Provencal, Pine Grove, Opelousas, Bethel, Washington, and Jonesboro (3 times). Hodge (2 times), Dodson, Houma, Bastrop, Hammond, Arcadia, Springhill (2 times), Mangum Memorial in Shreveport, Cedar Grove in Shreveport, Ida-Hosston, Winnfield, Haughton, Jennings, Many, and a few others on a part-time basis while serving those listed above. She was survived by two sons, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers. She is buried at Jonesboro, Louisiana. . |
