Dell Sydney Durand, Jr., was born February 4, 1935, in the Clear Creek community near Alexandria, Louisiana. He died as the result of a car accident on September 18, 1975. He attended Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, and graduated from Northwestern State University in 1960 with a B.S. Degree. He was licensed to preach in 1961 and was ordained elder in the Louisiana Conference of The United Methodist Church in 1964. In 1963 he was selected as the minister of the year, an honor given by the Progressive Farmer Magazine to a minister for his outstanding achievements. His relationship with the Louisiana Annual Conference was voluntarily terminated in 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Durand, and six children, Dell Sydney III, Brian Keith, Darla Shari, Karen LaJuan, Lori Daneen, and Darin Stewart; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dell Sydney Durand, Sr.; one sister and four brothers.
