Rev. Ellsworth J. Buck was born September 20, 1898 at Prospect Hill, Orange County, North Carolina. He passed away October 13, 1980. Rev Buck entered the minis-try late in life. He attended Centenary College. He retired after eleven years in the pastor-ate. Some of the churches he served were Haughton, Doyline, Castor, Alberta, Dubach, Denham Springs, Slidell, Oak Grove, and Bonita. It was my privilege to be his pastor for the last five years of his life. He and his wife, who preceded him in death, had me in their home for numerous meals. Though limited in formal education, he had all the characteris-tics of a scholar. He was first and foremost a preacher. He was a theologian as he delved deep into the meaning of the Word of God. He was a dynamic and interesting Bible teacher. He loved humor and was a great story teller. To know him was to love him. He was deeply respected and loved in the Sibley community and in the Methodist Church. I shall never forget his hearty “Amens” on Sunday mornings. He served his country in World War One. Another true soldier of the cross has moved to higher rank. | |
