Once again Death has stepped into the flower garden of the St. James United Methodist Church and plucked a rose - namely, Sister Lena Landry.
Sister Landry was born December 6,1886, in Rosa, Louisiana. She was married to Spencer David Cook. To this union were born two sons, Rev. David Cook (deceased) and Brother Columbus Cook of Melville, Louisiana.
Later in life, she was married to Rev. D. A. Landry. She was baptized by Rev. A. C. Mitchell in 1914. She was a devoted Christian. She was the Chairperson of the Stewardship Board and a Trustee. She was a member of the Isaac and Rebecca No: 34 and Eastern Star Martha Chapter 86.
Lena departed this life on August 7, 1982, at the Bayou Vista Nursing Home in Bunkie, Louisiana, and funeral services were held at St. James United Methodist Church in Melville, Louisiana. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Columbus Cook of Melville, three grandchildren, Lena Harris of Detroit, Naomi Cook of New Orleans and Spencer David of California; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
