The beloved wife of the late Joseph Edwin Brown departed this life on Friday, August 28, 1987, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mrs. Ella V. Bennett Brown was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on August 9, 1898. She was the daughter of Charles and Fannie Bennett. At an early age she showed an interest in education in Caddo Parish. She completed her higher education at Gilbert Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later taught school in Caddo Parish and Mansfield, Louisiana.
She met Reverend J. E. Brown in college and they were married February 14, 1925. She shared his life while he was a student at college. They had fifty-five years of happiness as they shared the joy of church work. Her devotion and love for Reverend Brown supported and inspired him as he served Robeline, Lake Providence, Bogalusa, Saint James in Shreveport, Monroe, Pineville, Haven, New Orleans, District Superintendent of New Orleans and Shreveport Districts. He retired in June 1960.
Mrs. Brown’s devotion and love for her husband supported him spiritually, educationally, and morally as he served the Louisiana Annual Conference. She will long be remembered by those whose lives were filled with joy through her influence.
She was funeralized at Shady Grove United Methodist Church on Tuesday, September 1, 1987 with Reverend James Graham officiating, assisted by Dr. Odell Simmons, District Superintendent of the Shreveport District and Rev. George L. Thomas, Pastor.
