Bridgette, Vivian (Mrs. Thomas J.)

The beloved wife of the late Reverend Thomas James Bridgette was born on April 5, 1919 in Plattenville, Louisiana to the late John Edwards and Nancy Southhall Edwards of Plattenville. She and her family were longtime members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Napoleonville, Louisiana. Mrs. Bridgette attended Leland College in Baker, Louisiana where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She earned a Master’s Degree from Southeastern University in Hammond, Louisiana. For thirty years she taught secondary education in Assumption and Terrebonne Parishes of Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted church worker. In 1949 she was united in marriage to the Reverend Thomas James Bridgette, a United Methodist Minister of Alexandria, Louisiana. To this union four children were born. One daughter, Fredia L. Bridgette, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bridgette’s devotion and love for her husband supported him spiritually, educationally, and morally as he served the Louisiana Annual Conference. She will long be remembered by those whose lives were filled with joy through her influence. At the death of her husband, she retired and lived in Houma, Louisiana. She served as a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church until she became ill. Then she moved with her daughters to San Diego, California where she attended St. Paul United Methodist Church. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, a son, and six grandchildren. She was funeralized at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 3094 L Street, San Diego, California, Wednesday, November 29, 1989 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend G. M. Phelps, Jr. officiating. |
