J. T. Cupples was born June 24, 1926 at Urania, Louisiana behind the Urania Methodist Church which later became one of his pastorates. His family later moved to Marshall, Texas where he graduated from Marshall High School. It was in Marshall at the Summit Street Methodist Church that he have his life to Jesus.
He was drafted immediately into the service as he graduated from high school. He retired from the military in 1970. While in the Air Force he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and became proficient with computers. When J. T. retired he was employed by Rollins in Atlanta as a computer systems design analyst.
J. T. felt the call of the Lord to preach His word so in June of 1977 he entered the ministry through the Louisiana Conference. His first three churches were Boyce United Methodist, Lahey Chapel and Sieper. These were followed by the Pine Grove charge in Minden, Eddy Justis, Urania, Eden, Pine Grove, Ball, Clear Creek, Hollins Chapel and McArthur Drive all in the Alexandria District. He retired in 1997 due to failing eyesight and health. He was a member of the Central Louisiana Ultreya. J. T. went home to be with Jesus July 21, 2000 and was buried at Hemphill Star Cemetery in the Cotile Lake Community.
