Akin, Fredna Scogins Reeves (Mrs. William)

Fredna Akin was born April 12, 1909 in Red River parish in Louisiana. She was the daughter of Isaac Columbus Scogins and Caroline Mae Horton Scogins who both preceded her in death. She traveled far and wide from her roots on her father’s cotton farm. She married Allen R. Reeves, June 27, 1928. He was in the U. S. Navy. Together they raised their family of four children, Allena Longfellow (deceased), Allen Richard Reeves, Jr. (deceased), Margurite Carter and Judith Ann Hoyt, in the large eastern and western coastal cities of the United States and Hawaii. After retirement from the Navy, Allen took the course of study and served several charges in the Louisiana Conference. Fredna also took the course of study and was certified as the Approved Supply Pastor of the Bethel Charge in the Shreveport District August 15, 1967 - May 31, 1968. After Allen’s death on December 24, 1973, she married Rev. William Roy Akin on September 9, 1976. Roy died in 1979. Fredna, after many years of service in all the churches where she lived, went to be with the Lord December 29, 2000. She was 91 years old, living alone near her daughter, Margurite Carter, in Mansfield, Arkansas driving her car, attending church regularly and lifting up her family members by name in prayer daily. She is missed by family, friends and neighbors. |
