McVay, Jr., George A.
2/10/2003
Sept. 18, 1930 - Feb. 10, 2003
George A. McVay, Jr. was born in Montgomery, Louisiana on September 18, 1930 and died on February 10, 2003 in Pineville, Louisiana. His wife, Ida Jane McVay, precedes him in death. He is survived by a son, George A. McVay, III, of Mt. Vernon, Texas; a daughter, Renée McVay Jones of Pineville, Louisiana; a brother, Herman Lee McVay, Sr. of Pineville, Louisiana; three sisters, Marilla Bond of Pineville, Louisiana, Geraldine Guillory of Alexandria, Louisiana, Zarilla Echols of Pineville, Louisiana; and one grandson, Joseph Lane Guillory of Pineville, Louisiana.
Although George was born in Louisiana, he began his ministry in Arkansas with the Little Rock Conference in 1963. He transferred to the Louisiana Conference in June of 1964, and was appointed to Bienville. Some of the churches George served in his forty-three year ministry are Montgomery, Rayne, Eunice, Many, Haynesville, Jonesboro and Palestine. He retired from Palestine in 1996 and served Bethel and Pleasant Grove in the Alexandria District in retirement.
His long and rich ministry was faithful and effective. His daughter Renée shares that he was loved and appreciated in all of his churches.
We all rejoice in the promise that the Reverend George A. McVay, Jr. has been welcomed in the Kingdom with these gracious words from the Master: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
