Higgs, William R.

1/21/2003

March 16, 1913 - Jan. 21, 2003

William (we affectionately called him Bill) R. Higgs was born in Cardiff, Wales on March 16, 1913. He passed away January 21, 2003. Brother Bill was licensed to preach in May 1935 in the Tuscaloosa District, North Alabama Conference. He received his education at the University of Alabama. Following his retirement as professor at Louisiana Tech University, he became pastor of the Bienville Church where he served for 10 years. He and Mrs. Higgs were loved by that congregation and they wouldn’t hear of him leaving even after his health began to decline. During the time I was his District Superintendent, it was my pleasure to meet them on more than one occasion at the Knob Hill restaurant in Arcadia for lunch on Sunday.
Besides those of us who held Brother Bill in high esteem, others who mourn his loss are a son, Dr. William R. Higgs, Jr., a heart surgeon and daughter, Kathleen.
Brother Bill….what a servant until the end at the age of 90! To God be the glory!
