Spinks, Grace Allen (Mrs. Otis)
10/2/2004
Grace Allen Spinks was born August 3, 1915 in Jonesville, Louisiana. Her parents were William Alexander and Annie Richardson Allen. She met a young pastor in neighboring Sicily Island, Otis Spinks, to whom she married in 1932. They have three children: Peggy Spinks Hughes, Longview, Texas; Betty Spinks Bales, Monroe, Louisiana; Thomas Allen Spinks, Arlington, Texas, nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Her husband’s appointments were at Delhi, Sicily Island, Haughton, Lisbon, Harmony Chapel, Eunice, Abbeville, DeQuincy, Nolley Memorial in Jena, Trinity in Alexandria, Summer Grove in Shreveport, Trinity in Ruston, Choudant, Douglas and Clay. She shared in and supported her pastor husband in every facet of church life; as a gracious parsonage hostess with her sparkling personality and attracted friends in every walk of life. She was widely active in community organizations and outreach programs. She and Otis were married 55 years truly for better or for worse in good times and bad. She supported her husband in active ministry, loved and cared for him in the final years of his life after he suffered a stroke in 1977. She led and encouraged children and grandchildren to lavish love on Otis throughout his final years. Her legacy will be in the beautiful memorial worship service held at Trinity in celebration of her life which challenged all of us to live Christianity fully and beautifully as she did before her body was laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery next to her beloved Otis.
