May 10, 1922 - Nov. 29, 2007
Adona Jeanette Pfost Cain passed away on November 29, 2007, at the age of 85. She was born in West Helena, Arkansas on May 10, 1922 to the Rev. Howard E. and Lucy Norton Pfost. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1943 from LSU in Baton Rouge where she was very active, serving as president of the Wesley Foundation, and earning a teaching degree.
After college graduation, she married Rev. Wesley Ralph Cain and began her role as a minister’s wife, serving with her husband at Memorial Methodist Church in Monroe, Springhill United Methodist Church in Springhill, and Mangum Memorial Methodist Church in Shreveport. She lived in Ruston, Louisiana from 1969 to 1973 while Rev. Cain was District Superintendent. When he became Area Provost for the Louisiana Conference they resided in New Orleans.
Adona Cain taught speech at Tioga High School in Tioga, Louisiana and at Midway Junior High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. While in Springhill, Louisiana she worked as a substitute teacher.
Adona Cain was an active member of PEO. She loved to volunteer for her church and community where needed. Following the death of her husband in 1975, she settled down in Ruston, Louisiana. There she served in many capacities for the United Methodist Women of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a loyal member of Trinity’s church choir. She enjoyed participating in the Cosmos Club of Ruston. She volunteered at Lincoln General Hospital. She tutored those needing help with reading, as reading was something she liked to do in her spare time. She was an avid Lady Techsters fan and loved going to games with friends or watching the team on TV. She was known for her baking, giving loaves of freshly-baked bread and rolls to friends and those in need. A special hobby of hers was knitting and then giving away the resulting dishcloths, sweaters, and afghans to family and friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Adona Cain is survived by her four sons: Noel Cain of Minden, Louisiana, Bruce Cain and wife Sue of West Monroe, Louisiana, Richard Cain and wife Carolyn of Gilbert, Arizona, and Paul Cain and wife Lynda of Kingwood, Texas, as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren with whom she loved to spend time. Her brother Howard Phillip Pfost and wife Ann of Tampa, Florida and her sister Mary Frances Ewing Adler of Alexandria, Louisiana also survive her.
