LYNELLA ALMA CRUSE RUSSELL SCARF
SEPTEMBER 21, 1919 – MARCH 23, 2011
Lynella Alma Cruse was born September 21, 1919 in Kelly, Louisiana to Frank Columbus and Mattie Harris Cruse, and passed away at her residence on March 23, 2011. She was one of eight children. After graduation from Kelly High School, Lynella attended and graduated from the Louisiana State Normal College for Teachers (now Northwestern State University) with a B.A. degree. She was an educator for thirty-two years, having taught in Kelly, Slidell, and Lee Roads.
Lynella was married to K.R. Russell for 22 years prior to his death in an automobile accident. Lynella and K.R. had one son Kirby Frank Russell. In 1967, she married Rev. John Scarf, who became a minister in the United Methodist Church. John and Lynella were married for 37 years, prior to his death on October 22, 2004.
Throughout her married life to John, Lynella was known for being such a supportive pastor’s wife. She was his partner in ministry, participating in every area of the life of the church. She was an immaculate housekeeper, and nearly every parsonage they lived in was renovated during their stay at that church field. A clergy couple following the Scarfs knew that Lynella would have the parsonage in tip top condition.
Lynella is survived by her son Kirby Russell, granddaughter Monica R. Liberatore, grandson Randall Russell, and two grandsons Dustin and Seth Russell.
Rev. Larry Stafford
