DISON ELWIN (EDDIE) MORGAN, JR.
JUNE 6, 1935 - NOVEMBER 28, 2010
Edison Elwin (Eddie) Morgan, Jr., was born June 6, 1935 in the home of Edison Sr. and Leona Morgan Morgan. He often joked that his mother was also a Morgan and that he was a thoroughbred. Shortly after his birth, his parents, along with older sisters Verda and Betty moved from Estherwood to Crowley, Louisiana, where a younger brother, Carroll, was born and where the family lived until the death of his parents. Eddie left Crowley after high school graduation in 1953. At Centenary College in Shreveport, he made life-long friends, many of which continued to study together at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Eddie began serving Methodist Churches while at seminary. He married Patricia Britton and adopted a daughter, Liz, and a son, John David, as they served churches in Louisiana and Texas. In 1975 they divorced and Eddie returned to Louisiana where he married Jackie Graham Dieterich, a widow with three sons, Dowd, Destin, and Derek Dieterich. Eddie and Jackie added a son, Matthew Morgan, and embarked on many years of living in parsonages and moving to all areas of Louisiana. God blessed this family with loving congregations and friends in 27 United Methodist churches. Eddie continued to serve after his official retirement in 1999. His love of God, people, and the church kept him ministering and preaching God’s love until cancer took his life on November 28, 2010.
Eddie is remembered as an intelligent, loving preacher who loved children and fun while living with family values. He was a wonderful father, step-father, son, brother, uncle, husband, friend, and grandfather to 15. He left us all with a positive attitude, an appreciation for all walks of life and understanding of passing on God’s love, and precious memories.
