Tornado Response

February 09, 2017

The Louisiana Conference is making a call out to deploy in-conference ERTs in response to the tornado in New Orleans East.

We are currently looking for trained Early Response Team members who can serve on teams, as well as those who are trained and would be willing to lead teams. The primary tasks will be chain saw work, debris removal, and roof tarping.

All Louisiana ERT chain saw operators must operate their own chainsaws and wear chaps, hearing protection, eye protection, steel-toed boots, and gloves.

The host site and operations center will be Cornerstone UMC, 5276 Bullard Ave, New Orleans, LA 70128.

The church has a kitchen and showers for team use. Volunteers must bring their own bedding, towels, tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other personal items. Air mattresses or cots are recommended.

Space is limited, so it is imperative to register if you are serving and staying overnight at Cornerstone.

Teams will serve on Friday and Saturday, February 10 & 11.

Teams will resume work on Monday, February 13 and will work through at least Wednesday, February 15. Volunteers may work any or all of the days in the above schedule.

There is no charge for ERTs to stay at Cornerstone.

Some meals may be provided, but volunteers should come prepared to either purchase and prepare their own food, or to eat in local restaurants at their own expense. Please bring your ERT t-shirts and wear them when possible on work sites.

To register, please click on this link: ERT Registration.

You may also email or call Rev. Bob Deich:  ladisasterpastor@gmail.com or (318) 245-4410.

Once you have registered you will receive a follow-up email giving you details including a suggested tool list and contact information for the church (please do not call the church before you hear back from us).
