St. Francisville UMC helps local school during 'Servant Saturday'

July 31, 2016
Nearly 20 members of St. Francisville United Methodist Church recently gathered early in the morning on the campus of West Feliciana Parish High School. Their purpose? To engage in the community in a significant way through “Servant Saturday,” a hands-on service project held quarterly by the church.

For the past five years, Servant Saturdays have included cleaning church property in preparation for the area’s Spring Pilgrimage, as well as fixing up the church parsonage for the arrival of a new pastor.

Rev. Daniel Hixon, pastor of St. Francisville UMC, commented, “We believe it is important to go out from our church house and put Christian love into action as we serve the needs of our community. Servant Saturday is one great way to do that. I know our Lord—who is the greatest of teachers and who blessed the children—is pleased when the people of his Church act in his name to be a blessing to our schools.”

Partnering with the West Feliciana Parish School System, the recent project included cleaning the school grounds, replacing and rearranging broken desks, and cleaning the auditorium and school building walls. Church volunteers worked alongside dozens of students, teachers and coaches from the school to complete the work.
