Preparing to Respond; Help Now

August 29, 2021

As Hurricane Ida begins to impact Louisiana, one thing is for sure; the state will be facing a massive rebuild and recovery. We here at the Louisiana Conference are poised to help in multiple ways.

Rev. Bob Deich
Rev. Bob Deich has agreed to serve as the interim Director of Disaster Response after the retirement of Rev. Elaine Burleigh. "We are hopeful that there will be continuity of ministry and mission during this transition," Deich said. "I am thankful for the leadership that Elaine Burleigh has given over the last couple of years, during a time of unprecedented major storms striking Louisiana and all under the COVID pandemic."

Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey says Deich brings the right amount of experience needed in the weeks and months ahead. "I am thankful for Bob’s willingness to step in at this critical time," says Bishop Harvey. "His experience and calm, steady, non-anxious leadership are critical at this time."

"We remind everyone to practice self-care and ensure that your personal and family needs are met," Deich said. "This includes evacuating if needed. ERTs are reminded to not self-deploy but to respond when notified through a deployment callout."

You Can Help Now

We are anticipating significant impacts from Hurricane Ida. If you feel compelled to help, please consider a financial gift. Giving now will help us respond quickly to those most in need.

"We are committed to stewarding your gifts with great care to the areas and persons impacted by the storm," says Bishop Harvey.
