Praying for the Judicial Council and the UMC

April 25, 2017

This week, the United Methodist Church's Judicial Council will be meeting in Newark, New Jersey. One of the agenda items includes questions related to the election, consecration, and assignment of a bishop in a same-sex marriage.

You can read more about the case and the legal debate here.

In the meantime, Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey is asking all of us to hold the judicial council and the entire United Methodist Church in prayer.

Here's her statement:

As the day unfolds and the Judicial Council of the United Methodist Church prepares to begin their work, I invite you to join me and pray without ceasing.

Pray for all involved in the hearing, proceedings and pray for discernment.

Pray that the Holy Spirit might intervene in all of our places of uncertainty, anxiety and of weakness.

Pray that, regardless of the outcome, we might declare that God is here.

Pray that we might hold one another close and refrain from name calling, sarcasm and snarkiness.

Pray for our beloved church.

Lord, in your mercy....
