More than 200 attend Confirmation Day with the Bishop

April 05, 2016

More than 200 confirmands from throughout the Louisiana Annual Conference joined Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey, clergy, youth and children’s workers and volunteers for Confirmation Day with the Bishop on April 2 at The Wesley Center in Woodworth. The theme, "Rooted in Christ," challenged confirmands to listen to their individual call to serve, to nurture their faith and to strengthen their relationship with Christ.

Classes were offered on the topics of United Methodist History (led by Rev. Walter Parker), Confirmation (led by Rev. Michelle Harris) and Missions (led by Rev. Robert Johnson).  Bishop Cynthia Harvey led the session on Sacraments and then served communion during opening worship.

Representatives from the Conference Council on Youth Ministry volunteered during the event. Worship was led by John Johnson from University UMC in Lake Charles, Andrew Connell of St. Luke-Simpson UMC in Lake Charles, Michael McFarlain from Henning Memorial UMC in Sulphur and Andrew Hedlesky of Wesley UMC in Sulphur. The four are youth ministers from the Lake Charles District.

Julie Lafosse, conference youth specialist, offered thanks to those who made this exciting event possible: “Bishop Harvey, who is an inspiration to us all, and especially to our youth and children; Roseanne Gillespie and the amazing Wesley Center staff, who go out of their way to ensure we have all we need for each event; Aaron Dufour, Morgan Dieterich and Logan Settoon for handling our sound and media during the event; and Sara LaFortune, Latrice Mallard, Hailey Urena, David Black, Guy Twyman, Hannal Hoyt and members of the Synergy Youth Group from First UMC in Crowley, who all came to volunteer."
