Lakeview UMC, Minden goes 'fishing for souls'

March 01, 2017
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (Office of Fisheries) and Lakeview United Methodist Church in Minden recently hosted a free event called the "Get Out and Fish Community Fishing Program" at Turner’s Pond.

Turner’s Pond, located on Lakeview UMC’s property, was stocked with 600 lbs of rainbow trout for this popular community event. The goals of the program are to enhance the quality of life in the community through fishing opportunities; promote family and community interactions through fishing; ensure that future generations are involved in outdoor activities; and boost self-esteem and confidence through fishing. This program provides affordable and safe ways for residents of all ages and abilities to fish and enjoy the fellowship of being in community together.

This creative partnership gave Lakeview UMC a unique opportunity to host and engage with the surrounding community in a significant way, and to do a bit of "fishing for souls" at the same time!
