Insurance Webinar: What Does the Future Hold?

September 25, 2023

The Louisiana Conference, in partnership with the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana, is taking proactive steps to address the ongoing property insurance crisis in the state, particularly focusing on its impact on churches. We are holding a ZOOM webinar to explore the future of insurance in Louisiana and answer your questions.

District Superintendents in the Louisiana Conference have been actively addressing concerns voiced by numerous churches regarding soaring insurance premiums and escalating costs. Reports of churches within the annual conference facing policy cancellations and astronomical premium hikes have prompted this webinar.

In response to this pressing issue, the conference has enlisted the expertise of Jeff Albright, Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Louisiana, who will play a pivotal role in shedding light on the challenges at hand.

Also joining Albright will be Chris Spencer of the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana and Rev. Dr. Van Stinson, Assistant to the Bishop in the Louisiana Conference. Together, along with your questions, we will discuss the current insurance landscape so make sure to mark down the ZOOM link and join us.

In recent years, Louisiana has witnessed a surge in damages caused by hurricanes, forcing many insurers to either shut their doors or significantly increase premiums. This situation has left numerous churches in a precarious position, struggling to secure adequate property insurance coverage. Adding to the frustration is the revelation that two state-chartered insurance associations are being compelled to borrow hundreds of millions of dollars for the first time in three decades to cover hurricane claims from insolvent insurers.

The Louisiana Conference is stepping in to address the concerns of churches and provide clarity during these challenging times, and the Conference encourages all concerned parties to join the discussion and seek the information they need to make informed decisions.
