Honduras Mission Trip

October 24, 2019
In 2011, working with United Methodist Missionaries in Honduras, St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church sent its first team into Potrerillos, Honduras. This small community is located in the mountains above the city of Siguatepeque.

The team consisted of 24 members; specifically, the team had a medical focus. Medical and children’s volunteers were stationed out of the community medical clinic and community meeting building.

Again in 2012, St. Luke-Simpson sent a Medical-Children’s Team and in 2013, the Lake Charles church added a second week of dental and construction teams. To date, the church has continued to send these missions for two weeks each year.

Fostering Relationships

For almost a decade, St. Luke-Simpson has developed and fostered a close relationship with the people of Potrerillos. Members have watched area children grow up, and they have also had the unfortunate experience of watching friends heal from gunshot wounds or cancer. All the while, they have seen the church grow and expand.

The church continues to work with the Honduran missionaries, pastors, and District Superintendent as they share their vision for Potrerillos and the part St. Luke-Simpson has in that vision.

Here are some of the many ways volunteer teams have impacted the region:
  • Medical clinics evaluating health needs and provides healthcare, medicines, and vitamins
  • VBS teams sharing the love of Jesus with children through singing, games, puzzles, and Bible stories
  • Dental teams providing dental care for those who cannot afford care or hygiene
  • Construction teams build efficient stoves in homes, upgrading the local sanctuary, improving security on church property

Returning for the 10th Trip

In 2020, the church will return for its 10th mission and are inviting others from across the Louisiana Conference to join them.

A medical and children’s VBS mission will be in Honduras February 22-29, 2020. A dental and construction mission will be February 29- March 7, 2020.

The cost is $1600 for one week or $2400 for both weeks.
