For those of you in the Baton Rouge District, we want to make sure you are aware of a special event in January.

"Confronting Racism Like Christians" will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

This community conversation will be led by Dr. Will Willimon, a bishop in the United Methodist Church and author of 70 books, including his latest Who Lynched Willie Earle? Confronting Racism through Preaching.

Willimon will be at Broadmoor United Methodist Church speaking about "America's Original Sin," from a Christian point of view. He will also discuss our history of race among American Christians as well as the positive, gracious resources that the Christian faith offers us in growing in our faith in and obedience to Jesus Christ.

Clergy Event

On Monday, January 22, 2018, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Dr. Willimon will present a preaching seminar, entitled Talking About Race in the Church. This event is designed for clergy, with a specific emphasis on how to discuss the topic of race in today's churches.

We will discuss recent trends in preaching and explore ways to help preachers be more biblical and faithful in their confrontation with racial issues from the pulpit.

Lunch will be provided.

Registration for the preaching seminar can be found here.
