A March Ordination

It's not that often an ordination service is held in March.
Then again, it wasn't that often for an ordination to be held in November, like it was in 2020, as the Annual Conference session was postponed due to the pandemic and concerns over social gatherings.
In November, two ordinands were not able to join us for the Celebration of Ministry Service in November due to COVID exposure. On Saturday March 20, members of the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Louisiana Conference cabinet, and family members joined together at First United Methodist Church to ordain Rev. Reyn Sewell and Rev. Chris Winterman.
"It's here and it's happened," said Sewell. "And boy does it feel good!"
"We did a thing today," said Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey. "We had two ordinands who couldn't be with us last November and today we were able to ordain them. This was a culmination of all that hard work and the discernment they have done. And we can actually lay hands on them and ordain them."
As Winterman reflected on the intimate service, he was grateful for the entire experience.
"It was hard not being there in November," Winterman said. "But having it done this way with all of the specialness for just two people, it feels more special and unique."
