Children's Ministry event trains, resources, inspires

March 29, 2017
The Children’s Ministry Learning Lab held Feb. 17-18 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette brought together those who minister to children and their families for training, resourcing and inspiration.

A special “Newbie Night” on Friday helped newcomers to children’s ministry by covering topics such as nursery/child care, budgets, volunteers and special needs ministry.

In addition to plenary sessions and “best practices” sharing, Saturday included a keynote address, “What Every Child Should Experience in a Methodist Congregation,” given by Melanie Gordon, Director of Ministry with Children for Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

"We had so much fun connecting with other children’s ministry workers from across the state," said Lynley Jones, Director of Children's Ministry for Asbury. "More than 75 attended. We all stayed together--learning, eating and playing together. 'Newbie Night' was a huge success—those new workers left feeling more “stable” and heavily resourced."

Two Upcoming Events offered by the Louisiana Childrens' Ministry Network include a
Bible Block Party on Sept. 9 in either Lafayette or Shreveport; and a Preschool Ministry and Preschool Day School Workshop on Oct. 7 in Slidell.
