Teddy bear ministry shares smiles and hope with hospitalized children

August 03, 2016
Rev. Davis Clark, pastor of Warren United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, hopes that his church’s new teddy bear ministry will meet its goal of sending the stuffed animals to each Lake Charles area hospital with a pediatric unit by the end of 2016.

In addition, Warren UMC hopes to expand the ministry by serving hospitals all throughout the state by 2018.

In a July 26 article in the Lake Charles-based newspaper, American Press, it was reported that the United Methodist pastor “came up with the idea for the ministry after he saw commercials for sick children at places like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”

Church folks and community members took the project under their wing, and gathered the stuffed animals that were recently delivered to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Pediatrics Unit. Rev. Clark is pictured, above, delivering one of the bears to an elated patient.

Rev. Clark stated in the article that the main purpose of the ministry is to “bring comfort and happiness to children who are in the hospital.”

Clark added that the teddy bear ministry is a great way to “re-engage” Warren UMC with the community in a significant way, “bringing people back to God.”
