Louisiana Conference announces new Cabinet positions

February 26, 2016
At the 2015 Louisiana Annual Conference, the delegates voted to accept a new conference structure that would align the work of the Conference with its vision, mission and core values.  After two years of diligent work, the assigned task force aligned the work into four areas: Clergy Excellence, Congregational Vitality, Administrative Ministries and the work of the Bishop and Cabinet. See Restructure Diagram, here. It was also clear that all four areas were intended to further the Purpose and Mission of the Annual Conference: Equipping and empowering local churches to become vital congregations that make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

As the cabinet begins deliberating the appointive process, they have been informed by the new structure.  With the announcement of the retirement of Dr. Don Cottrill, who has served the conference faithfully for 48 years, most recently as the Provost /Director of Connectional Ministries during the last 13, Bishop Harvey is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Van Stinson as the Assistant to the Bishop.  In addition to the responsibilities of Assistant to the Bishop, Dr. Stinson will assume responsibility for the work of the Center for Clergy Excellence. See Dr. Stinson's bio here. Bishop Harvey is also excited to announce the appointment of Rev. Bernadine Johnson as the Director of the Center for Congregational Vitality. See Rev. Johnson’s bio here. Rev. Johnson will also be responsible for Connectional Ministries.

On July 1, Rev. Ken Irby will assume responsibility as the Baton Rouge District Superintendent.  Bishop Harvey celebrates the appointment of Rev. Gary Willis to Shreveport as the new District Superintendent. See  Rev. Willis’ bio here

“The cabinet covets your prayers as they continue this season of appointment-making.  Please pray for our churches, our pastors and their families,” said Harvey
