Safe Sanctuaries trainings slated for February, March

February 02, 2016
Several years ago, the Louisiana Conference approved a resolution that required each local church to write and adhere to a Safe Sanctuaries policy for their congregation.  This is done to insure that our ministries provide a safe place for all, especially our children and youth.  Each year our congregations are to report that they have and follow a safe sanctuaries policy.

The resolution further stated that there would be mandatory training for local churches at least once a quadrennuim.  This training is specifically designed for the persons responsible for writing, updating or implementing your church’s Safe Sanctuaries policies. Attendees may include age-level staff persons, pastors, SPR representatives, trustee representatives, council/board representatives, as well as anyone who is just interested in what Safe Sanctuaries is all about. It is hoped that 3-5 persons from each church be in attendance--more would be fantastic.

There is no registration fee or process, but churches will be asked to sign in when they arrive at their respective trainings.

These training sessions have been set for various locations throughout the state in order to make it convenient for leaders to participate.  The date, times, and locations are as follows:

Acadiana: March 12, First UMC, New Iberia, 10 a.m. - Noon

Baton Rouge: March 12, First UMC, Denham Springs, 10 a.m. - Noon
