Summer Grove UMC uses Fresh Start grant and memorials to feed those in need on ‘Tasty Tuesdays’

January 11, 2016
In December, the Sisters in Service women's group from Summer Grove United Methodist Church held a Christmas party for clients of the church’s food pantry.

Monthly dinners for the clients, known as “Tasty Tuesdays,” have been held at the Shreveport church for several months. The Christmas dinner was the largest one to date with over 50 people in attendance.

“The meals were started in memory of the mother of one of the church’s members. This member used memorial money, along with a Fresh Start grant from the conference, to begin these dinners. Several of those who have come to the dinners have also started attending worship at the church,” said Rev. Mark Bray, pastor of Summer Grove UMC. “The dinners have truly embodied the words of Matthew 25:35 that read, ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’"

The pictures from the event show members of the Sisters in Service serving the meal and guests playing Joy to the World on bells.
