Update from the 2016 Louisiana Conference Delegation

The Louisiana Conference delegation, in preparation for the 2016 General and Jurisdictional Conferences, met at The Wesley Center in Woodworth on Feb. 28.
The delegation met with Bishop Harvey during the meeting, discussing critical issues facing the United Methodist Church. Those issues include term limits for Bishops, guaranteed appointments and human sexuality. The South Central Jurisdiction, in which the Louisiana Conference falls, may face the loss of one episcopal area. This loss would potentially result in the election of two Bishops, instead of three.
The South Central Jurisdictional Conference is slated for July 13-16 in Wichita, Kansas.
During the Feb. 28 meeting, individual delegates selected the legislative committee that they will be working with during the United Methodist denomination’s General Conference, slated for May 10-20 in Portland, Oregon. The committee assignments, by delegate, are: Church and Society 1-Rev. Lynn Malone; Church and Society 2-Carolyn Dove; Conferences-Stacy Hood; Discipleship-Sarah Kreutziger; Faith and Order-Juliet Spencer; Financial Administration-Pat Day; General Administration-Pete Aguila; Global Ministries-Juan Huertas; Independent Commissions-Amanda Price; Judicial Administration- Terrel DeVille; Local Church-Bernadine Johnson; and Ministry and Higher Education/Superintendency-Andy Goff.
The delegation will begin the process of interviewing Louisiana Conference candidates for the Episcopacy on May 21, making a final decision on whether or not to endorse a candidate in August.
Please continue to lift up the members of the delegation in prayer for the journey before them and the important work they are called to do.
Clergy delegates to General Conference are Revs. Andy Goff, Juliet Spencer, Pat Day and Bernadine Johnson; and Lay delegates are Carolyn Dove, Dr. Sarah Kreutziger, Pete Aguila and Terrel DeVille. Additional clergy delegates to Jurisdictional Conference are Revs. Lynn Malone, Juan Huertas, Ellen Alston and James Mitchell; and additional Lay delegates are Stacy Hood, Amanda Price, Walter Weiss and Olivia Pruett. Alternate Clergy delegates are Revs. Katie McKay Simpson and Matt Rawle; and Lay delegates, Rob Fairly, Jr. and Todd Rossnagel.
