Deacon offers invocation for State Senate
Rev. Lindy Broderick, center, is pictured with Senator Sherri Smith Buffington, District 38, and Senator John Alario, Jr., senate president, after leading the opening prayer in the Louisiana Senate on April 2.
Senator Buffington made the request that allowed Rev. Broderick, a provisional deacon in the Louisiana Conference of The United Methodist Church, to give the invocation.
“I will cherish the memory and carry this experience with me throughout my ministry!,” said Broderick. “This opportunity was afforded to me because I am now clergy. The moment of being able to lead the Louisiana State Senate in prayer was the embodiment of what I had hoped and dreamed my calling could be about--connecting the church and the world in the legislative arena.”
