Sabrina Short named Conference Youth Strategist

July 31, 2013

Sabrina Short, a member of Thomas United Methodist Church in Kenner, will serve as the new Youth Ministry Strategist for the Louisiana Annual Conference. Her first official day on the job is Aug. 12.

She replaces Jodie Harper, who has served as Conference Youth Director for the past three years. Harper is leaving the conference team to return to the field of nursing.

A student at Tulane University, Short is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and digital design. She serves as the Young Adult Coordinator for Thomas UMC. Short has also been selected by the General Board of Discipleship of Young Peoples Ministries to serve on the national design team for Youth 2015, a large-scale discipleship event for United Methodist Youth. She is the co-chair of the Communications Committee for the design team. This denominational event is slated for June 24-28 in Orlando, Fla.

Sabrina is married to Rev. Kaseem Short, pastor of Thomas UMC. They have a nine-year-old son, Justice, who is “very excited” about his mom’s new role in the church.

“I hope to equip and empower youth and youth workers for disciple-making work. My goal is to help create a connectional space for our churches to be able to share resources and best practices. We will work for a climate of being truly united and lifting each other up in ministry,” said Short.

Best of all, she is “ready to have fun!”
