Faith Crossing UMC hosts mobile pantry
Faith Crossing United Methodist Church, serving the Walker/Denham Springs area, recently distributed food items to 351 families in need—triple the number served last month!
“We estimate that the food will help to feed anywhere from 1,500 to 1,700 folks. Church volunteers unloaded and distributed two full semi-trucks,” said Rev. Leslie Stephens, pastor.
The church is excited about the growth, but faces the challenges that come along with success. “We are completely out of room to grow our mobile pantry. One guy who came today said we needed to build another parking lot. We laughed and said we already have,” said Rev. Stephens.
The food provided to Faith Crossing UMC for these regular distributions comes from the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. “The items are ones that the food bank was going to throw away. One of our church members who works for the food bank found out about the extra items and made arrangements to set up the giveaways from our parking lot,” added Rev. Stephens.
