Conference offering helps Russian church

May 07, 2012
During the 2012 Louisiana Annual Conference in Shreveport, an offering of more than $47,000 was received and dedicated to the repairing of First United Methodist Church in Ekaterinburg, Russa. Local churches are still receiving donations for this worthy project.
The Louisiana Conference has been supporting the congregation of the First United Methodist Church in Ekaterinburg, Russia since its beginning in 1991. Countless contributions over the last 20 years have included food, medical equipment, clothing, hygiene items, Sunday school curriculum, church materials and Vacation Bible School supplies.
Mission teams have traveled to Ekaterinburg to provide help with construction, Vacation Bible School, and other important outreach missions.
The Louisiana Conference and the General Board of Global Ministries raised $500,000 for the original construction of the building.
The church serves as a central meeting location for the Central Russia Annual Conference each summer and other local district meetings. During the week, the church is a meeting place for a non – denominational church which gathers on Sunday afternoons and a Campus Crusade for Christ group that also convenes on Sunday afternoon. The Campus Crusade minister was quoted as saying, “This church is a blessing to the community.”
The strength of First UMC, Ekaterinburg furthers the growth of Methodism in Russia and spreads the love of Christ to many. Countless people have been touched by this church and countless more have yet to hear the good news of the gospel. Sustaining the church for continued ministry can help Methodism in Russia continue to build.
