Fresh Expressions of Church, a micro-grant program sponsored by the Louisiana Conference Board of Discipleship (CBOD), is currently accepting applications for grants of up to $500 to local churches to support community outreach initiatives.
Applications must be received by January 16, 2018.
District Superintendents will evaluate the applications from his/her district, will select one or two proposals, and rank those proposals.
The Fresh Expressions subcommittee of the CBOD will select six projects to be funded--one per district, if possible.
A look at last year's winners can be found here.
They include a soup ministry from First United Methodist Church in Acadia, that has provided home made soup for the sick, elderly and shut-ins within the Acadia community. The message on each soup container has read: "Soup for your Soul-You are in our hearts and prayers".
Another winner from last year - the Fidget Blanket Project from Hebert United Methodist Church in Hebert, LA.
Fidget or busy blankets are small lap blankets used to soothe Alzheimer's or dementia patients by keeping their fidgety fingers busy and were distributed to residents of the local nursing home in Caldwell Parish. As the project expanded, doctors in the area were given the blankets to distribute to Alzheimer and dementia patients in their care who are living in their homes.
Some possible FE projects include sports ministries, community gardens, employment training and artistic expressions like drama, art and music in a Christian context.
Each grant recipient will submit a report on the effectiveness of their Fresh Expression program. Reports shall include participant data, photos, financial information, individual testimonials and advice on how other churches can replicate the results achieved.
